2019-04-29

March 25-26, the China-France Global Governance Forum was held in Paris on the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. President XI Jinping and President Emmanuel Macron of France attended the closing ceremony of the forum. Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission were also invited to attend the closing ceremony.

WANG Yi, vice president of the Institutes of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASISD), attended the Forum and gave a speech.

WANG Yi pointed out that tackling climate change is not only a matter of carbon emission reduction, but also involves all aspects of economic society and energy transformation, and it is necessary to explore system solutions, and decide timetables, roadmaps and priorities. Sticking to the "Paris Agreement", in recent years, China has carried out a lot of work on legislation, planning, institutional adjustment and structural transformation, focusing on high-quality development and the establishment of a green and low-carbon modern economic system.

WANG Yi further listed three suggestions for strengthening bilateral cooperation in related fields.

First of all, China and France should continue to play leading roles in jointly tackling global climate change, promoting sustainable development, and building a coordinated governance framework for addressing global environmental challenges such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, and marine pollution.

Secondly, in the areas of environment, climate change and sustainable development, third-party cooperation should be carried out to help key countries and regions realize the commitments in their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions and sustainable development goals.

Thirdly, China and France should carry out comprehensive, multi-level and multi-disciplinary bilateral cooperation on addressing climate change and biodiversity conservation, striving to promote the sustainable future of the people of the world.

The forum was jointly hosted by the State Council Information Office of China and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of French.
